May 7

“Robert F. Kennedy once said, Don’t Get Mad Get Even. With all due respect to the former U.S. Attorney General, the two may be very closely related. Just ask the Towson men’s lacrosse team who entered last week’s CAA Tournament with revenge on their minds…”

Those are the first three sentences of the last story I will ever write for Towson Sports Weekly, or any WMJF show, for that matter.

It wasn’t until yesterday that I realized this was my final full week of classes. Before that all I knew was that graduation is May 24, and one way or another I would be swamped until then. But then it was brought to my attention; after this week I will never have a full week of college courses again for the rest of my life. It hasn’t quite hit me. But little by little it’s all starting to set in.

During my time with TSW I have done very little writing myself. The bulk of it has been left to third year producer and fellow-senior Ryan Dooley. On the other hand, I have written basically every scripted word for the three other shows I have been fortunate enough to work on. When I realized that tomorrow’s episode would present me with my last opportunity to write for any WMJF show, I decided to ask Ryan if he would mind letting me write an intro and outro to the highlight package for last Wednesday’s Towson Men’s Lacrosse game. He was kind enough to let me do so.

Within seconds of getting the nod, my eyes started to flood.

Now, the words that came out may have been a bit cheesy. But the idea wasn’t necessarily to write something monumental. It was more so just to leave a mark on what will, for all intents and purposes, be my last show. I wasn’t able to do that without getting choked up. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when I actually have to deliver the words tomorrow afternoon.

I’m sure you’ll hear about it.

Also coming up next week will be my Towerlight senior commentary and final ‘In This Corner.’ Like I said, it’s starting to set in.

*The shirt and tie were for tonight’s annual Towson Athletics Banquet. Aly Hunt took Female Athlete of the Year. Gary Neal took Male Athlete of the Year. When Neal’s name was announced he was out of the room on the phone. After rushing up to the stage he managed to save face: “Sorry about that. I was on the phone with the Milwaukee Bucks. They say they’re taking me with the first overall pick in this year’s draft.”

How to tie a tie.
